Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection

Posted by adboy on October 31, 2008

Pinball Hall of Fame - The Williams CollectionPinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection . Emulating pinball in the world of video games has never been an easy thing, but somehow, someway; all of the games included in Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, are emulated nearly perfectly, and perfectly capture the feel and enjoyment of the classic game. Featuring tables including Taxi, Gorgar, Black Knight, Funhouse, and Pinbot among others; Pinball Hall of Fame also features a variety of modes, unlockables, and goals to achieve to hold your interest. The pinball physics are dead-on as well, and the game’s overall presentation is a pleasent surprise as well. The only real flaws with Pinball Hall of Fame is that more games weren’t included on the disc. It just feels like more tables should have been included here, or at least something else. Other than that, the Wii motion controls work very well here, although one may wonder if that is reason enough to justify the price tag of the Wii version of the game being doubled. All that aside, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection is a sheer blast, and for Wii owning pinball fans, you can’t go wrong here at all.

Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge

Posted by adboy on October 29, 2008

Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge . The first Winter Sports title on the Nintendo Wii is a very solid one, especially at the budget price.

The presentation is very solid. The game runs with a widescreen mode, has smooth graphics, and good sound. In addition to the in-game music, there are two witty European commentators that provide some interesting and funny banter. There is a very neat opening ceremony, and medal ceremonies complete with national anthems. Load times are minimal, and bugs are non present.

There are over fifteen events in nearly every Winter Olympic discipline. There are two varieties of Speed Skating, several varieties of Skiing, Skeleton, Luge, Bobsleigh, Figure Skating, and Curling. The majority of the events controls very well and provides intelligent and innovative uses of the Wii remote and Nunchuck. With the sliding sports, for example, while on the track you hold the remote in the Steering Wheel fashion. With Figure Skating, you use the remote and Nunchuck like in a rhythm game, very similar to the method used in the Wii version of “Dancing With the Stars.” Sadly, the controls for Curling seem to be broken or, at the least, extremely difficult to use. But, all of the other events control very well.

The game has a skill-building career mode, 4-player multiplayer, single event play and traditional tournament modes. Overall, for the price, it’s a very solid package that’s enjoyable in both single and multiplayer modes.

Wario Land: Shake It!

Posted by adboy on October 26, 2008

Wario Land - Shake It!Wario Land: Shake It! . The Wario Land series is where Wario, Nintendo’s greedy, uncouth and rude anti-hero first appeared, and now he’s back in singleplayer action in Wario Land: Shake It. With the Wii Remote controller turned sideways like an old-school controller, veterans and newcomers alike can run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages. Players shake the Wii Remote to help Wario take down his enemies, empty bags of treasure or cause earthquakes. Best of all, there are numerous stages each offering multiple missions to keep players coming back again and again to unlock everything, collect more coins or just improve their best times.

Storyline and Gameplay
Wario receives an antique globe and telescope that allow him to travel to the once-idyllic Shake Dimension, now conquered by the tyrannical pirate, the Shake King. With the assistance of his longtime rival, Captain Syrup, he must rescue the Merfles, denizens of the Shake Dimension imprisoned by the Shake King. Only by defeating the bosses of all five continents of this strange world can Wario find and confront the Shake King, rescue Queen Merelda, queen of the Merfles, and, most importantly, claim the Bottomless Coin Sack, a never-ending supply of gold.

Each stage has Wario navigating an obstacle course of dangers and traps to find an imprisoned Merfle. Once he frees the little fellow, the countdown begins and he must find his way back to the starting gate before time runs out. Wario must also defeat a boss in each continent, and then buy a map of the next continent from Captain Syrup. Once all five continents’ bosses have been defeated, Wario takes on the Shake King himself.

Characters
Wario Land: Shake It features a wide cast of off-the-wall characters including: Wario, our “hero.” Captain Syrup, a female pirate (and rival from previous games) who aids Wario on his quest. The Merfles, helpless natives of the Shake Dimension, and their queen, Queen Merelda. The Shake King, leader of a ruthless pirate band who has conquered the Shake Dimension.

High School Musical: Sing It

Posted by adboy on October 24, 2008

High School Musical - Sing ItHigh School Musical: Sing It . What time is it? Time for High School Musical 2, the sequel to the Disney Channel smash that aired on Aug. 17, 2007 and became the most-watched basic-cable show ever. School is out, and Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) are looking forward to a summer to remember, but Troy also needs to make bank so he can go to college. As it turns out, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), the self-proclaimed primo girl of East High, has her eye set on primo-boy Troy, and gets him a job at the country club her parents own. It looks great for Troy when Gabriella and the rest of the Wildcats are hired also, but when he gets preferential treatment from the club manager (Mark Taylor) and others, it puts all of his relationships in hot water.

Everyone’s back from the original movie, including Zac’s buddy Chad (Corbin Bleu), Sharpay’s brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), and Gabriella’s friend Taylor (Monique Coleman). And the songs on the hit soundtrack often parallel the originals and are just as catchy: the Troy-Gabriella duet (“You Are the Music in Me,” which is later Sharpay-ized into a rock version), the sports-flavored hip-hop number (“I Don’t Dance,” but this time on the baseball diamond instead of the basketball court), the Gabriella lament (“Gotta Go My Own Way”), the climactic stage duet (“Everyday”), and the mass-ensemble closer (“All for One”). But the sequel doesn’t just stick to the status quo. Other songs include a flashy opener (“What Time Is It”), Sharpay’s poolside feature (“Fabulous”), a percussive ensemble number (“Work This Out”), and Zac’s solo (“Bet On It”), and the dances are even bigger this time around, relentlessly high-energy and often spectacular. In addition, the “let’s put on a show” angle ! is only a subplot and the romance is now front and center–which means High School Musical has lost a bit of its innocence. But it’s still wholesome viewing for tweens of all ages. Sharp-eyed Disney Channel fans will spot Miley “Hannah Montana” Cyrus as an extra.
